Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument
This area commemorates the US Army's 7th Cavalry, American Indian tribes, and scouts in one of the last conflicts to preserve indigenous ways of life. In 1876, 263 soldiers, including Lt. Col. George A. Custer, perished in battle against several thousand Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors. Today, you can visit the battlefield, tracing the conflict via grave markers that honor both soldiers and warriors.
